Interview on Westgate, Kenya, Somalia, Shabaab & Hammami on Loopcast

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to talk with @rejectionking on @theLoopcast about the recent Shabaab attacks on the Westgate mall and what the implications are for Kenya and Somalia. ┬áThis led to a more lengthy discussion on counterterrorism policy/strategy in the Horn which I sort of hijacked and took into a broader discussion – one many people may not care for. BLUF: I don’t think we can nor should try to solve all the world’s problems just to stop a few terrorists.

We concluded with some thoughts on Omar Hammami and his recent killing by al-Shabaab.

So with that, you can visit the Loopcast at this link if you are interested in listening or you can listen below on this embed.

  1. I’m trying to understand the dynamics of the relationship between Omar Hammami, Habib Saleh Ghani and Samantha Lewthwaite. My understanding is that Lewthwaite was a vocal critic of Hammami. Why was her husband, Ghani, with Hammami when they were killed? How does the killing of her husband affect the relationship between Lewthwaite and Ahmed Godane?
